Links your assistant can send
Your assistant can send pages you own — a calculator, a booking form, a brochure — by name. It cannot type a web address, and this page explains why that matters and how to set the links up.
Customers ask for pages. “Send me your pricing.” “Where do I book?” “Do you have a brochure?”
Your assistant can send them — but only pages you have set up, and only by name. It cannot type a web address, and that restriction is the feature.
Why it cannot type a web address
An assistant asked for your pricing page has two options if nobody gave it one. It can describe the page in words, or it can produce a web address that looks right. Assistants are good at producing addresses that look right and are wrong: a page you renamed last year, a path that never existed, occasionally a domain that is not yours at all.
A customer who clicks a wrong link has been sent somewhere by your business. They do not know an assistant guessed. So your assistant is never given your addresses to repeat — it names a link, and Kooday looks up where that name actually points at the moment it sends. If the name is not one you set up, nothing is sent and only your assistant’s own words arrive.
Setting them up
There is no Links screen in the dashboard yet. Links are configured through the settings API, or by asking us to set them up for you. The screen is coming; everything below describes what a link is, and applies either way. We would rather tell you this than have you hunt for a page that is not there.
Each link has a short name, a label and the address.
- The short name is what your assistant uses —
calculator, demo, brochure. Lower-case letters, numbers and underscores. Keep it obvious: this is the word the assistant has to recognise when a customer asks. - The label is what the customer sees on the link. If you leave it blank the short name is used, which is rarely what you want.
- The address must start with
https://. Plainhttp://is refused, and so is anything that is not a real web address.
Saving is all-or-nothing. If one link is wrong the whole save is rejected and told you which — rather than quietly keeping the good ones and dropping the bad, which would leave you believing a link exists.
Filling in a blank
An address can carry a blank for your assistant to fill in:
https://yourbusiness.com/pricing?industry={industry}
Write the blank in curly brackets, in lower-case. When your assistant sends that link it fills the blank with what the customer actually told it — the industry they are in, the size of their team — so they land on a page already set up for them.
Two rules worth knowing:
- If your assistant cannot fill a blank, the link is not sent at all. A half finished address is a broken page, and it is better for the customer to get your assistant’s words than a link that fails.
- Whatever gets filled in is treated as plain text. It cannot add anything to the address or change where it goes — only fill the blank you left.
Where they appear
On website chat a link arrives as a card the customer can tap, beside your assistant’s message. Your assistant still says in its own words what the page is and why it is sending it, because a link on its own tells the customer nothing — and because not every channel can show one.
Troubleshooting
My assistant talks about a page but never sends it
The name it used probably does not match one you set up. pricing and prices
are different names, and your assistant will happily talk about a page it has no
way to send — it is never told whether a name exists, by design, because that
would mean handing it your addresses.
The link arrives without a proper title
The label is blank, so the short name is being used instead. Add a label.
I set a link up and nothing changed
Give it a minute, literally. Your assistant’s configuration is cached for about sixty seconds, so a link you just saved can take up to that long to start appearing. There is nothing to publish or restart — waiting is the whole fix.
If it still does not appear after a minute, it is almost always the short name: check that the one you configured is the one your assistant is actually using.
