Pictures of your products

How to add up to eight pictures to a catalogue entry, choose the main one, and what customers see on WhatsApp, your website chat and your Meta shop.

Updated 27 August 2026 6 min read

A picture is the difference between describing a product in a paragraph and showing it. On WhatsApp and your website chat, your assistant can send a card with a photo on it — and a card with a picture is far more likely to be acted on than a paragraph of description. This page is about getting the pictures right: how many, which one is main, and what each channel shows.

The short version of what to know before you start: an entry can carry up to eight pictures; the main one is the one sent on WhatsApp; all of them show on your website chat and your Meta shop; and a picture is added by pasting its web address, not by uploading a file from your computer.

Where to find it: the Pictures section of an offering in What you sell. It is the deep dive for the picture mention on Selling from your catalogue.

The five-minute setup

  1. Open the offering in What you sell.
  2. Scroll to Pictures and paste the web address of a picture into Picture link. It must start with https://.
  3. Optionally add a Describe it note for screen readers.
  4. Press Add picture. The first one becomes the main picture automatically.
  5. Add more if you have them — up to eight — and save.

A single good picture on your best sellers is a fine place to stop. The rest of this page is for choosing the main picture and understanding what each channel shows.

Step 1 — Adding pictures

Each picture is a web address and an optional description:

  • Picture link — the address of the picture. It must start with https://; a plain http:// address is refused. Paste the address of a photo already online — on your site, your social pages, or anywhere you host images. There is no file-upload box.
  • Describe it (for screen readers) — a short note about what the picture shows, so someone using a screen reader knows what is there. Optional, and good manners: your customers on the site chat may be using one.

Step 2 — The main picture

One picture on each entry is the main one — the one with the star. It is the photo your assistant uses when it can only send one picture, which on WhatsApp is the only option. The rules are simple:

  • The first picture you add becomes the main one. Add a star picture first.
  • You can change it — press the star on another picture to make it main.
  • Deleting the main picture promotes the next one. You are never left with a card that has a gap where the picture should be.

There is exactly one main picture per entry, always.

Step 3 — What each channel shows

WhereWhat the customer sees
WhatsAppThe main picture only. WhatsApp allows one picture per message, so the rest are not sent there
Website chatAll the pictures, as a strip you can swipe through, with the main one first
Meta shopThe main picture as the listing image, the rest as extra photos
Phone callNo screen — your assistant describes the item and says the price aloud, as always

This is the part to plan your pictures around. If a customer is most likely to meet the product on WhatsApp, the main picture has to carry the whole job on its own — choose the one that tells the story in a single frame. The extra pictures are for the richer surfaces.

Step 4 — The Meta listing

When you sync your catalogue to Meta, the main picture becomes the listing’s primary image and the rest become additional photos. A picture with no web address your assistant can use simply does not appear — the listing is not blocked by it.

A worked example — a car detailing business

For the Alloy Wheel Refurb entry, the main picture is a before-and-after close-up of a refurbished wheel — the one image that sells the service on its own. Two extra pictures show a wheel mid-process and the finished car, which round out the story for anyone browsing on your website chat or Meta shop. One main picture that answers the customer’s first question, then supporting shots.

Troubleshooting

No picture appears on the WhatsApp card

The offering has no main picture, or the one it has has no usable web address. Check Pictures on the entry: a card without a picture still carries the words, the price and the link — it is just missing the photo. Add a picture and save again.

The picture looks broken in the card

The web address is not one your assistant can use — it is not https://, or it points at a page rather than a picture file. Paste a direct image address that starts with https://.

WhatsApp shows the wrong one of my pictures

WhatsApp sends the main picture only. Press the star on the picture you want sent, and save.

A picture shows on my website chat but not on WhatsApp

That is by design — WhatsApp allows one picture per message. The main picture is the one that goes; the rest are for the website chat and your Meta shop. If the WhatsApp card is showing nothing, the main picture’s address is the problem.

A sensible first configuration

Pictures on an entry
Main picture = the one that sells it alone (the before-and-after)
Up to 8 total = main first, supporting shots after
Every address = https://, pointing at a picture file

Add one strong main picture to your best sellers first, then round them out with supporting shots as you have them. WhatsApp only ever shows the main picture, so that one carries the weight; the extras earn their place on the website chat and the Meta shop.
